Having just had to navigate the ‘what to wear to a work event’ at my book launch last week, it dawned on me that this blog post was long overdue! After all, I know I’m not the only one who has spent many minutes wondering what on earth to wear to an important work occasion in days gone by.

With that in mind, I thought I’d offer my take on what to wear to a work event at this time of year, should you need some inspiration this Autumn/Winter…

The understated option…

If you’re looking for something pared back and understated, the taupe maxi shirt dress from my latest collection with Karen Millen paired with my new favourite grey suede boots from LK Bennett is a match made in neutral heaven. Paired with my favourite pearl earrings from Gingiberi, it’s a soft and elegant look that compliments the cooler tones of the season.

The ‘I mean business’ option…

If you’re more of a traditional suit person, this evergreen double breasted jacket and tapered trouser duo from H&M gets a big tick from me. Also available in a stunning shade of burgundy (as well as other options), it’s the perfect suit for this time of year and easily transitions from day to night. I’d dress this up with my satin Manolo’s and something sparkly on my ears for a polished evening workwear look.

The playful option…

I surprised myself when I found myself adding this skirt to my basket (along with the green version too) but I am SO glad I did because I absolutely love it. Paired with my white bow neck shirt from my most recent collection with Karen Millen, Black LK Bennett cardigan and black Louboutins, it’s such a playful look that manages to still feel elegant and considered. I couldn’t love it more.

The casual option…

If you’re looking for something that feels slightly more casual, you can’t go too wrong with an all black ensemble. With that in mind, this black plisse midi skirt and tweed jacket from M&S pair perfectly and can be styled in so many ways – a perfect example of timeless high street finds. I’d wear these with my square neck bodysuit from Reiss, black leather boots from LK Bennett and a headband from Clementine & Mint for a smart but informal evening look. Looking to inject some colour? Swap the Black Tweed for this stunning olive green jacket from Me + Em instead.

The elegant option…

I’m biased because I chose to wear this outfit at my book launch last week but Suzanna London never fails to deliver. This two piece in the perfect shade of evergreen (also available in a blush rose and navy) is tailored to perfection and will leave you feeling like the belle of the ball. What I love most is that you can wear them separately too to ensure that you get the most out of each piece.

Have a specific event in mind? Let me know in the comments below and I’ll do my best to recommend a few pieces!
