the new generation of super-foods you should be buying

3th May 2016
Growing up my diet could not have been less sophisticated if I tried, pasta, bread, potatoes and ketchup was the general gist of my day to day intake. I think as children we can get away with it but it’s as we age that we really do have to take what we put in and on our bodies a lot more seriously. I was very lucky in the sense that my parents fully respected my right to choose what I put on my plate and never forced me to eat anything I didn’t like, sure enough with time I found my own way that worked for me, sampling everything when I was ready to and developing my own pallet. There is still no place for tomatoes or mushrooms in my diet and I think I’ll take that one to the grave with me. But regardless of how far my lifestyle has come over the years I’ve always wanted more goodness wherever I can get it.   [lem_title]SUPER GREENS[/lem_title] As much as my diet and nutritional intake has evolved over the years I know that I am still by no means perfect and I often wonder if I am even hitting my 5-a-day so Greens Supplements have always appealed to me, except when it comes to their taste. Never judge a book by its cover, they say but when it came to Powdered Greens, they looked like pond water and they tasted like pond water. I just couldn’t stomach them so I gave up completely that was until I started hearing about The Super Elixir. The Super Elixir is a premium Alkalising Greens supplement full of “super greens, Chinese herbs, digestive enzymes and members of the maitake mushroom family”, so it turns out I’ve been having mushrooms all along, sly little toadstools. As much as my diet and nutritional intake has evolved over the years I know that I am still by no means perfect and I often wonder if I am even hitting my 5-a-day so Greens Supplements have always appealed to me, except when it comes to their taste.

I mixed up my first bottle of The Super Elixir and I can’t lie it took me a good few goes before I actually took a sip, but I’d mixed half coconut water and half ice cold still water with the two teaspoons of powder and after one sip I thought Oops! I’d bought those lovely flavoured coconut waters. But in actual fact I hadn’t, it just tasted that good. That was that, I was Sold. But in case you weren’t just yet; It’s free from dairy, gluten and preservatives making it Vegan Friendly and is designed to not only maintain good nutrition but also to keep your body in an alkaline state. When your body isn’t Alkaline it stops absorbing vitamins and minerals adequately, it doesn’t repair damaged cells as efficiently and can also considerably effect your energy levels. So I decided to take my Alkaline state just as seriously as I was taking my nutrition.

I now have The Super Elixir every morning before I head to the gym and on my return I enjoy/crave/devour in 60 seconds one of their vegan protein shakes from their range. I’ve removed any surgery acidic drinks, which were few and far between anyway, and am now working towards alkalizing my diet as much as possible whilst also undertaking the little 4 week Body Reboot which came with my Supplements.

The product above retails for £96 but that does include the pretty ceramic tub that looks incredibly chic in your kitchen but possibly isn’t necessary as the 300g of product works out to around £6 per day, fine if you don’t mind sacrificing a coffee or two but the refill sachets retail for £62.50 working out at £4 per day.

[lem_title]SUPERFOODS FOR YOUR SKIN[/lem_title]

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAHailed as the new Superfoods for your skin, the new Énergie de Vie is powered by Goji Berries and a favourite of mine, Lemon balm oil which had me itching to get it home and I’ve been trialling it over the last few weeks with the Énergie de Vie Nuit sleeping mask absolutely stealing my heart.

My skin has been on a bit of a hormonal roller coaster over the last few week, wreaking havoc with my complexion and hydration levels and that’s without my usual dryness being taken into consideration. I’ve been adapting my skincare accordingly to help with my skin’s recovery and this mask has been a godsend for really giving my skin a surge of moisture on those days when I really need it.

Looking at the texture of the mask, you’d think it was jelly like in substance but as it touches your skin it melts providing a surge of hydration over night. The morning after my first application, I couldn’t believe how incredible my skin looked and felt. There was no tightness but also no congestion which can often occur with my skin currently, I was left with a radiant and hydrated complexion. I’m now finding myself counting down the days until my next application which is always a sure sign of an endless love affair.

A little indulgence from my comfort of my own home thanks to INCREDIBLE @kmp_skin and @freshbeauty Ad
for the launch of the new Lotus Youth Preserve Resurfacing dream serum which is a gentle AHA serum with prickly pear flower extract said to boost radiance and it was so lovely to be treated to a first trial to get a very first impression of the serum thanks to KMP and her magic hands. I’ve literally never had a facial like it!
The plum tree in our garden is always the first blossom to erupt at this time of year narrowly beating the much loved aubretia that grows in abundance through our old garden wall. As soon as is acceptable I’m out with my secateurs ready to fill vases and prickly jars with its delicate confetti like blooms 🌸
Februarys carpet of Crocus blooms is always quite the spectacle. I find these little cheerful perennial flowers popping up in the most unlikely of places and what’s special is how they naturalise and multiply each year to create a carpet of flowers ready for the early Winter-Spring bees 🌱
Winter Spring views.
Primrose & Snowdrops are on their way!
February is a very special month, it almost feels like the build up before the crescendo of spring and I can’t help but feel a flutter in my chest at the thought of what’s to come 🌱
