Fa la la la la! I feel on top of the world this Christmas season. Truly the most energetic and productive I think I’ve ever been. But oh my goodness, when I managed to get away to the Cotswolds this weekend for my anniversary, I took several moments of stillness for self-care and realised just how much I needed it. Isn’t it funny how sometimes we just don’t realise how wound up we are until we stop in our tracks and really digest the season we’ve had?rnrnFor me, it was launching one of my favourite collections ever with Karen Millen. Then moving into decorating the house from top to bottom (no room was spared!). Don’t forget Christmas shopping and truly trying to make bespoke gifts. Add a splash of hosting dinners for my loved ones and team. And of course – documenting it all on vlogmas! Fewf, that’s a busy December… even for me. I’m sure you are all feeling the same. While the Christmas spirit is completely taking over and I fully encourage it, we might need a bit of downtime after the 25th comes and goes. I want to talk about some of my favourite self-care practices that I simply cannot get enough of.
Just a little note to say that working in this industry presents all sorts of incredible opportunities. Ones that I don’t think I would be able to get anywhere else frankly. And for that, I am extremely grateful. But I think I would lying if I didn’t admit that it’s very challenging on the mind. I mean, I think any small business is the same. You wear so many hats throughout the day that it makes sense that you would be spinning from project to project. And add in the effects of social media? That’s a tougher pill to swallow sometimes. A little while ago I spoke to you all about being at one of the lowest I have ever been in my life. I had such a negativity bias and I didn’t even know that I had it. I was very open about how I just couldn’t do what I wanted to do because so many other things would get in the way. That’s why I’m proud to say that I simply don’t make time for things that make me upset, and if I do have to deal with those things, I have several techniques to help me get through those periods. Cheers to being in my 30s and coming up with solutions to my problems, one of the many perks of ageing! I’m actually at one of my happiest times in my life right now, and I can confidently say that I am ready for 2022 to be another great year for Team LEM. Hoping you are in the same state of mind, but if not, here are some ways to take care of yourself over the Christmas break.
Everyone has their own journey with the practices that they use for self-love. Here are mine :
To me, there is nothing quite like the mindful activity of writing down my to-do list, or turning on some of my favourite relaxing music and journalling either my goals, or simply recounting the day, or even going into territory that makes me a little sad or angry. Extremely therapeutic! So how do you ensure that the writing happens? I love a beautiful notebook and diary – Smythson make the perfect hybrid with a notes section on the side of every week that I live by.
Now you all know how much I love a brisk morning or evening (or both!) walk with the saucisse, but I have to say that my VAHA mirror has been an absolute game-changer. I’m always a bit nervous to add a bit of clunky workout equipment to my space because it’s just such an eye-sore, but can I just say that I actually wake up excited to use it! They offer beautiful restorative classes yoga classes when I need a bit of downtime, but also invigorating pilates classes when I need an energy boost.
There is nothing like a candle or scent to transform the room you’re in, don’t you agree? And I like to change them up when a new season rolls around, or when there is an event in my life. And the lighting they give off?? Wow, it just makes all of the difference to my headspace! I feel like I can let go of the day and switch off. Funny how something so small can make you feel so good.
I think that January is one of those magical months where you are hyper-focused and motivated to be the best version of yourself, but just remember to be kind to yourself in the process. Believe me, I’m the QUEEN of productivity and wanting everything to move fast. But you know what, there is something to be said about slowly down and really living in the moment instead of running from goal to goal. So eat the chocolate! Order that pizza from time to time. Kindness starts at home, people.
Your old pyjamas not exactly sparking joy these days? I really suggest investing in some good loungewear and cosy clothing items that we make you excited about your self-love practices. If you dress the part, you’ll feel the part – that’s my new mantra! I have the most gorgeous robe that I have linked below that I am loving for 2022, as well as some luxe silky pyjamas that are to-die-for!
Hi, what make are those riding boots??
