my all natural morning pick-me-up

19th April 2021
Addiction is something I’m familiar with. I spent 10 years of my life as an addict without ever trying to quit, my addiction made me believe I was in control, that I continued to do it because I enjoyed it. The first time I tried to quit I used a book (Allen Carr’s Easy Way to Stop Smoking) which changed my entire mindset when it came to my addiction, but unfortunately because I was quitting for someone else instead of myself I started again a few months later. My second and final attempt I used the skills I’d learnt in the book but channelled my drive to quit for myself instead of someone else and 8 years on I’ve never relapsed again.

LEMON & GINGER TONIC

Can be used as a morning shot or as a base for tea, I prefer the tea option because I actually enjoy a longer drink in the morning to give me time to wake up. I make enough to last me the week and store in a jug in the fridge.

Grate 100g of Ginger root into 500ml of water
Bring to the Boil and then leave to stand for 45mins
Then add the Juice of 3 lemons and run the mixture through a siv to remove the grated ginger.

Optional

Stir in a large tablespoon of honey. Personally I don’t, I enjoy the kick of the lemon and the spice of the ginger for a zingy morning tea.
Now I can’t confirm the benefits of drinking this as fact but there’s lots of articles that Talk in depth of the benefits to immune system and digestion as well as being a Lemon and Ginger tea being a rich source of Vitamin C and potassium, which I’ll take when compared to Redbulls health benefits which stand at a grand total of NONE.

DO YOU MAKE ANY HOME MADE TEAS OR TONICS? WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITES? I’M ON THE LOOK OUT FOR A WONDERFUL HOME MADE TEA FOR THE EVENINGS TOO!

Omg Lydia this will make you laugh – I made your G&L tonic last week for the first time. My goodness did we think it was strong – the children dared each other to drink shots! I drank it mostly as a tea. I pulled up your recipe to make another batch and realised the recipe said let STAND for 45 mins – I simmered it. Which explains why it was soooo strong as a shot! Will pay more attention in the future. X

Lids, you could also try this if you’d like

    Serving Size: 2

    Cucumber peeled & sliced – 1
    Gooseberry (pitted) – 4
Lemon (or) Lime cut into wedges – 1
1/2 inch to 1-inch ginger root
    Honey (optional)

    Procedure:-
Add all the ingredients into a mixer add two to 3 cups of water and blend until all the ingredients turn into a gritty paste. Now strain the mixture.
Add honey if you prefer it sweet.

You could also add water to your liking if you want it strong or diluted. However, adding a lot of water reduced the acidity.

It’s such a refreshing morning drink.

Please give it a try and let me know if you like it 😀

Hi- I find it a lot easier to make a ‘ginger juice’ (by blending ginger and water) which i store in the fridge- you add this to the lemon tea made fresh every morning.

Thanks for all the tips Lydia. Sometimes there is just too much information . This is clear and simple.
Gosh I remember the days of being a cabin crew member. Energy drinks to be awake and sleeping tablets to sleep. Working all hours when younger . Silly o’clock I used to calk it. Such bad habits. I rarely have a coffee now. But I feel I have caused alot of damage to myself. So on ny own journey. Following you for inspiration.
        Thanks again much love.
