The Joys of Summer Beauty Have Arrived!

What products were you loving throughout June? Have you filled your beauty cart with anything special this month?

It’s about to get exciting! Summer beauty season is on the golden horizon and it really is my absolute favourite season in the beauty calendar because it’s all about beautiful skin, pops of colour and golden goddess glows – what’s not to love right? This year I’m hoping my top picks will transport you (wherever you are, dreaming of holidaying right now!) whilst also ensuring that you have everything you need to perfect your summer look.

The ‘Lydia’ Bespoke Lipstick, Code8 Beauty

OK so shameless plug but I couldn’t not highlight my collaboration with Code8 & Harrods which launched this week, especially seeing as I’ve been keeping it under wraps for so long. Last year I worked closely, and by closely I mean I literally mixed the first lipstick with the Code8 team (pre-Covid, obvs), to develop a lipstick that I felt encapsulated me and everything I love about blush shade lipsticks. I knew, however, that I had my work cut out for me because I’m a teensy bit picky when it comes to creating the perfect lipstick and even more so when its a neutral. I needed to make sure it was a blush without being too pink, coral-toned without losing its neutral heart, balmy but intensely pigmented, and most importantly, the kind of neutral shade that adds life to any make-up look which only a perfect summer neutral can do. But do you know what? I did it! It’s the lipstick I personally reach for every morning because it breathes its own unique summer glow over the entire look that I personally thought only dreams were made of before I made this lipstick.

I promise you, for once I’m not being dramatic. It’s beautiful and I’m so proud to put it out into the world!

After Sun Tan Maximiser, Lancaster

This product has been in my life for well over ten years and still going strong. Whenever we would venture off (the struggle is real right now!) on family holidays, my step-mum would buy this for me from duty free on the way home. We’re a family of avid Lancaster lovers and it was always an essential for prolonging our golden glow for as long as possible. And oh my gosh, don’t get me started on how it has the most classic summer holiday suncream smell which brings memories flooding back from 16 year-old Lydia’s holiday romances from decades gone by. The wave of nostalgia I experience every morning when I apply it is something else!

Eden-Roc Fragrance, Maison Christian Dior

The newest launch from Maison Christian Dior which I snapped up on a recent shopping trip, is one where every time I spray it, I imagine I’m there- waves lapping against the rocks, Whispering Angel in one hand, croissant in the other (the perfect combination, don’t argue) and that’s about as much holiday as I’m getting at the moment so I’ll take it. However, the fragrance itself is beautiful, combining the perfect balance of summer freshness and warmth to create a fragrance that encapsulates the evenings spent at the Mediterranean Paradise Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc.

CC Water, Erborian

Tis the season to strip it all back… outfits and make-up, the lot! And the Erborian CC Water is leading the way! The perfect barely-there make-up base that provides a hint of dewy, hydrated colour which has impressive staying power throughout the day. Its one of those incredible formulas that contains micro-pigment beads which burst to release an adaptable pigment and hyaluronic packed formula. You know that cakey feel you get during the summer when you put on a full face of makeup – no more! Opt for this super smooth product (don’t forget the SPF though) by the pool, in the garden… wherever you get your vitamin D at present! It’s a little touch of confidence when you aren’t quite ready to go bare-faced.

UncompliKated SPF 50 Soft Focus Makeup Setting Spray, Kate Somerville

As soon as I saw this come up on my Instagram feed I added it straight to my basket. SPF 50 and a make-up setting spray shaken into one handy can, perfect for those last minute top-ups or those “Oops! I forgot” moments. Now there’s absolutely no excuse for skipping the most fundamental part of our skincare routine. Added bonus? It also smells delicious, there’s definitely a hint of Provence lavender in there somewhere and provides a beautiful soft-focus finish. It is definitely the SPF we’ve all been waiting for.

Grape Water, Caudalie

One of my most favourite beauty discoveries of Spring 2021 and I think it’s a little unexpected considering Caudalie’s iconic Beauty Elixir but I’ve always supported an under-dog. The fragrance has subtle notes from nature, and the spray is slightly thicker than normal sprays I use. It’s typically ‘wetter’ if that makes sense so you need to be prepared if spraying over make-up. I’m a bit of a face mist savage and I love an intense shot of moisture to refresh my make up throughout the day but its also wonderful to spray on bare skin. Because it’s in such a large can, if you struggle during the British summer nights when it’s hot and muggy, it makes a great cooling mist to spray over legs and arms. I just love it!

Everything feels a little more optimistic as March begins don’t you think?
It’s the start of spring in my book Evergreen shortly followed by the spring equinox so there’s ample time to prepare, nest and refresh.
The light returns, hello March 🌱

A little indulgence from my comfort of my own home thanks to INCREDIBLE @kmp_skin and @freshbeauty Ad
for the launch of the new Lotus Youth Preserve Resurfacing dream serum which is a gentle AHA serum with prickly pear flower extract said to boost radiance and it was so lovely to be treated to a first trial to get a very first impression of the serum thanks to KMP and her magic hands. I’ve literally never had a facial like it!
The plum tree in our garden is always the first blossom to erupt at this time of year narrowly beating the much loved aubretia that grows in abundance through our old garden wall. As soon as is acceptable I’m out with my secateurs ready to fill vases and prickly jars with its delicate confetti like blooms 🌸
