A little indulgence from my comfort of my own home thanks to INCREDIBLE @kmp_skin and @freshbeauty Ad for the launch of the new Lotus Youth Preserve Resurfacing dream serum which is a gentle AHA serum with prickly pear flower extract said to boost radiance and it was so lovely to be treated to a first trial to get a very first impression of the serum thanks to KMP and her magic hands. I’ve literally never had a facial like it!
The plum tree in our garden is always the first blossom to erupt at this time of year narrowly beating the much loved aubretia that grows in abundance through our old garden wall. As soon as is acceptable I’m out with my secateurs ready to fill vases and prickly jars with its delicate confetti like blooms 🌸
Februarys carpet of Crocus blooms is always quite the spectacle. I find these little cheerful perennial flowers popping up in the most unlikely of places and what’s special is how they naturalise and multiply each year to create a carpet of flowers ready for the early Winter-Spring bees 🌱
One of the very first flowers of spring, snowdrops are arguably one of the most fascinating flowers. Snowdrops actually contain a naturally occurring antifreeze which enables them to recover seemingly effortlessly (but as we well know, nothing in nature is effortless) as temperatures rise and once upon a time those natural antifreeze properties were utilised to de-ice tanks during the war. As well as all that, Their flowers hang in that beautifully bashful way not because they are in actual fact shy, but because their pollen only attracts insects when dry so in the wetter months between January and April, they maximise their potential for pollination by hanging their flowers like little droplets of dew in the morning light. And another fun fact is I ignored these beautiful flowers that grew in the bucket loads in our woodland for many years, because I never bothered to actually look at the world so if I can give you any piece of advice for when you wake up in the morning tomorrow, it’s get outside and notice the beauty that is already, all around you 🌱
Primrose & Snowdrops are on their way! February is a very special month, it almost feels like the build up before the crescendo of spring and I can’t help but feel a flutter in my chest at the thought of what’s to come 🌱
