autumn knitwear

1th October 2021
Knitwear is a girl's best friend, quite literally. Knitwear always looks put together, it's ultra cozy, it's comfortable, it's just there to support in so many ways that a little black dress or a pair of heels won't do for you (no offence to the LBD or heels, but you know what I mean - right?).

Tis the season of cool mornings, crunchy walks over fallen leaves, and cozy fireplace evenings with a glass of the good stuff – oh yes, I’m talking about autumn, ladies and gentlemen. Quite possibly my favourite time of the year and certainly one of the best for fashion. Leathers, wools, and tweeds… oh the possibilities! But wait a second, it’s all a bit overwhelming sometimes, isn’t it? There are so many options out there and with the online world completely dominating the fashion scene, I often wonder if I’m going to like the piece that I’m putting in my basket. So how do we navigate without seeing the DHL guy five times per week, or standing in the queue at the post office with all of your returns?

So before I bite off more than I can chew, I felt like I should start with an autumn item that is most likely to be on your minds this time of the year – you’ve guessed it, I’m going with knitwear. Knitwear is a girl’s best friend, quite literally. Knitwear always looks put together, it’s ultra cozy, it’s comfortable, it’s just there to support in so many ways that a little black dress or a pair of heels won’t do for you (no offence to the LBD or heels, but you know what I mean – right?). I suppose the only caveat with knitwear is maintenance, and I highly suggest looking at the washing instructions of each item you buy because I’m not about to tell you how to clean your garments as I have shrunk many a piece!

Without further ado, here are some of the best ways to find knitwear – I’ve divided it up into fit, fabric, and some of my favourite brands to shop.

Knitwear 101

Here are some of the things that I look for when I’m choosing knitwear

Fabric

You’ll see that fabrics are very important when it comes to knitwear because having the wrong fabrics will affect the overall look – and if you choose the right fabrics, the item will look far more luxe. Also keep in mind what is important to you when you shop… for example, do you get hot easily? Don’t wear non-breathable wools. Are you a low-maintenance sort of gal? Cashmere is not your friend.

Fit

When in doubt, size up. Nothing worse than a knitwear piece that is too small for you, you’ll itch, you’ll sweat, and it doesn’t give you all of the benefits that a knitwear piece should. A good knitwear item should represent comfort, elegance, and warmth – so definitely make sure that you are swimming in it as opposed to squeezing into it.

Some Of My Favourites Designers

By Lydia (Shameless Plug)

In case you haven’t heard, my collection with Karen Millen launched earlier this month and I was completely floored with how you guys supported me, having sold out of so many pieces within 20 minutes. Like honestly, I could cry. I poured my heart into this latest launch, and with the help of my incredible team at KM, the result was more than I ever thought it could be. Although some of my favourite knitwear pieces have sold out, there are still a couple of beautiful styles from my collection that I would love for you to check out. I have tried to make the collection as inclusive as possible, which many of the styles ranging from XS – XXXL. Hoping you can all find something to enjoy this autumn!

Lauren Manoogian

This Brooklyn-based designer is a girl from our own heart – all of their campaigns feature knit on top of knit, with a side of knit! I love her ethos too : “Natural material choices along with a dedication to sustainable and sincere handcrafted production practices inform each collection’s composition and highlight the designer’s personal and deep knowledge of textile development from her time in the industry and Rhode Island School of Design studies.”

Dondup

I mean, Italian knitwear? Need I say more? This is a full collection and I love how they play with elegant silhouettes, but make it youthful. And how lovely is the message they have on their website : “All men are equal, race, colour and faith do not mean anything. What has value are the intentions and actions of each person ”.

Intimissimi

If you thought this brand was just for sexy little things, you are mistaken! If you missed my little round-up for Intimissimi faves in my unboxing last month, I found a ton of great basics outside of the boudoir – one of which was their ultralight cashmere collection. It’s breathable and totally perfect for every day wear!

And Other Stories

I think we all have a little Stories in our lives, am I right? Always a great place to find a fun floral or print.

H&M

Out of all of the high street faves, I have to say that I always find some amazing pieces at H&M. They are really great at minimalist silhouettes, and I find I always wearing them over and over.

Khaite

Ouuu such a good investment piece and I am always blown away by their collections. I think that everyone fell for their signature ribbed top with scoop detailing on the neckline this summer, but their knitwear is equally lust-worthy.

Loro Piana

The godmother of knitwear. The mecca. The ultimate. Not only are their knitwear pieces made with the finest materials you can find in the fashion industry, but the fit is incredible and they will truly last you a lifetime. Oh and their branding is next level gorgeous.

Did you find any knitwear that you liked?

I’d love to know if you have found the ultimate knitwear brand recently! I’m always on the hunt for new acquisitions, although my wardrobe is bursting at the seams right now (we always find a way to make a new piece fit in, don’t we?). Have a great weekend everyone and thanks for tuning in!

Everything feels a little more optimistic as March begins don’t you think?
It’s the start of spring in my book Evergreen shortly followed by the spring equinox so there’s ample time to prepare, nest and refresh.

for the launch of the new Lotus Youth Preserve Resurfacing dream serum which is a gentle AHA serum with prickly pear flower extract said to boost radiance and it was so lovely to be treated to a first trial to get a very first impression of the serum thanks to KMP and her magic hands. The plum tree in our garden is always the first blossom to erupt at this time of year narrowly beating the much loved aubretia that grows in abundance through our old garden wall. As soon as is acceptable I’m out with my secateurs ready to fill vases and prickly jars with its delicate confetti like blooms 🌸
