my top 6 essential home decor accessories

3th August 2020

If there’s one thing I love about home and interiors its having a goof faff. Changing out accessories, moving things around and creating newly styled vignettes gives a fresh feel to you space or surface but funnily enough, finding beautiful and versatile accessories that could be easily swapped and changed that weren’t on the more “luxe” side of the spectrum was actually quite challenging and as someone who doesn’t like to let a challenge beat me, I went in search.

I knew I wanted to inject more of mine and my husband Ali’s personality into the home, what we stand for, what our interests are etc etc but also ensuring we add depth, texture and warmth. My home is a space that I want to get better with age, I want the items within it to age beautifully and not worry about the general wear and tear of every day life and as we work through our list of spaces we want to finish this year (the list is quite long, but we do plan on having quite a few spaces fully finished this year so let me know if you would like to hear more about that) I want to ensure that in 10 years from now, these special items still have their place within our home.

COFFEE TABLE BOOKS

Books and coffee table books have become a bit of an obsession since moving in to this house because I never had any space to keep them before. I’d read a book and then instantly have to hand it over to a friend because we just had no space! So I’m still getting used to the notion of actually getting to keep them and actually having them on show. I’m hoping to introduce more bookcases into the Study as work starts on it for me to keep my reading books but coffee table books are always dotted across my home. I tend to prefer fashion, architectural and interior coffee table books in stacks of 2 or three, as these are the books I find most inspiring and also thread our interests throughout our home. Although I’m definitely on the hunt for some beautiful Garden design books now that Ali and I are getting into our gardening a lot more, so expect to see those popping up around our home too. Below is a selection of my favourite coffee table books so scatter and style across your home.

MARBLE BUSTS & SCULPTURES

We live in a modern cottage style home set amongst a lot of very grand old houses and we are always wanting to give little nods throughout our home to the grandeur and opulence that surrounds us. Marble busts and sculptures seem to do just that for us, the light tones with the intricate detailing look beautiful styled on bookcases and console tables and instantly make a space feel more expensive without a huge price tag I initially discovered them thanks to the incredible interior designer Steve Cordony and managed to find a website which makes them to order for a lot less than I imagined they would be. Our Venus bust now sits proudly on top of our Antique Louis Vuitton trunk in our lounge and we both love her.

CANDLES

Candles have always been an absolute essential throughout my home, but I’ve always focused more on scented candles rather than the pillar variety. This is because I always love my home to smell its absolute best but it cant be ignored the feel of beautiful ivory pillar candles throughout the home, especially if your home has a lot of glass, but even if your home doesn’t, hurricane jars of various shapes and sizes create that same cosy feel.

RUSTIC POTS & VASES

Mismatched rustic pots and vases are my absolute favourite from antique urns to more affordable aged terracotta pots, its all about mixing it all up to create a beautiful mismatched curated feel.

TRUNKS & CHESTS

The accessory I think every home should have. Whether you go the whole hog with an antique LV option from LV trunk or you prefer to search Facebook market place, eBay or etsy for an old treasure, they really do add such personality and history to a space whilst also providing added storage not to mention some of the stories that come attached to these older purchases are pure magic.

NATURAL TEXTURES AND FABRIC

I’ve tried really bloomin’ hard not to mention the L word in this post when it comes to fabrics I’m afraid there’s just no chance. Linen really is my absolute favourite fabric to keep the feel of softness coupled with the beautiful texture of natural materials. Thankfully Linen never goes out of style and there are easy and more affordable ways to introduce such as cushions from brands like Sewn By B and Paloma Living (that is now available at Charles Ted interiors), if you have Ikea sofas you can give them a new lease of life with a stunning Bemz linen cover and you can add little details with linen napkins, table runners and throws etc. Jute and wool rugs or carpets are also a wonderful addition to add character and a more rustic feel but these tend to be a more expensive and more permanent fixture in a home so definite get samples and try them out before hand.

These are a few of my current Homeware favourites,
