My home for London Fashion week was pretty spectacular. I spent 5 nights at the stunning Mondrian Hotel in one of their sea view suites which peer over London’s skyline like a passing ship. Before bed each night I’d purposely leave me curtains drawn so that each time I woke, the view was the very first image to greet me.
The Sea View Suites offer a spacious living area including a dining area with mini bar and Nespresso coffee machine, there really is a God. The bed was nestled round a partition and faced right onto the balcony fronted the entire width of the suite. The Bathroom was floor to ceiling marble with a large walk in shower, stunning over sized bath with separate toilet. The bathroom lighting, might I add, is exceptional for doing your make up in. I cannot express how fundamental, good lighting is for the success/failure of a hotel stay.
Needless to say, the balcony was my favourite place. I would wrap myself in all of the blankets and venture out there to type up the day’s activities and catch up on e-mails. I didn’t care that it was February and bitterly cold, it was perfect. I could hear the waves lap against the walls below and the distant hustle and bustle of London life. It was those moments which kept me sane during the craziness of London Fashion Week.
An extra special nod of appreciation must be given to the Staff of the Mondrian, so often over looked and yet to imperative to the success of any visit, they were nothing less than faultless. The doorman, always smiling, greeting you warmly regardless of how many times you come, go and change your outfit.
Naturally, in my exhaustion I made full use of the room service on offer and in true Lydia style, sampled one meal, five different times over five days. What can I say? I’m a creature of habit, so if you are thinking of ordering the Mondrian Burger, do it! But every staff member who visited my room during my stay, from the guy who took me to my room to the lovely ladies who offered the turn down service every night were warm, friendly and unimposing. A real testament to hotel staff everywhere.
Never have I been so thankful for a Spa in all my Spa loving life. Come Tuesday night I was absolutely destoyed, my feet covered in blistered, my glutes ached and my eyes were red raw. As hard as it was for me to even move I pulled on my robe, slid my weary feet into my slippers and waddled off to the Spa situated on the bottom floor of the hotel.
I spent, what felt like hours just sitting in the steam room with coconut oil in my hair, reflecting on the excitement of the week past and as I felt myself dosing I moved into the relaxation room where I poured myself a Green Tea and slid off to sleep for what felt like hours. My body needed it desperately.
A huge thanks must be given to the incredible team at The Mondrian for providing me with the perfect home from home during an extremely busy week. I will definitely be visiting again soon.
