Spring is in the air. Evenings are lighter, the skies are bluer and morale, as a hole is noticeably higher.

"It's time to start peeling back the chunky layers and Spring cleaning your style for the season a head."

There's some what of a slump once the festivities of Winter are out of the way and restlessness for warmer months sets in. It's time to start peeling back the chunky layers and Spring cleaning your style for the season a head.

As the temperature becomes milder, I start to look at my wardrobe in a different way. What won't see the light of day in the next few months, heavy fabrics, cable knits and chelsea boots. I start by pulling these items to the front of my wardrobe as I delve into the tight space over the next few weeks. Then they are in one handy place ready for culling in to vacuum packs and popped in the already bursting attic. I label them by catagory, year and season to make it easy to reintroduce when the weather permits their reintroduction.

Not every trend will work for you, your style, your wardrobe and your look. I like to ensure there are as few wardrobe faux pas as possible by giving the trends we saw at the previous fashion month a revisit and seeing which one works for me.

The trend I am fully embracing right now is the ruffle trend but keeping in line with my feminine tailored style with clean crisp fabrics and structured silhouettes.

It's time to let go of the items that haven't seen the love they deserve in your wardrobe because lets face it, not many of us have a wardrobe like Mariah, space is valuable and being able to see what you have in your wardrobe even more so.

There's nothing worse than getting to the end of a season and finding, squished at the back of your wardrobe, the most perfect season appropriate pair of jeans, which you had completely forgot you owned.

One thing I am really trying to do this season is step outside of my comfort zone. I'm thinking colour and lots of it. In the past my Spring seasonal palette has been safe to say the least with whites and denims and not a lot else. This season I'm taking the plunge and introducing some real colour to my wardrobe and I'm going to try to do it in a tasteful way which suits my style, but watch this space, it could all go horribly wrong!

White shirts, jersey basics and good underwear! I filmed a video this weekend and it became pretty obvious that I was in dire need of the latter. Spring/Summer is the season of sheer fabrics, light colours and flattering shapes so what goes under our clothes is just as important, it's time to invest in our underwear and that's something I never thought I'd find myself typing.

But there are wardrobe staples that I simply cannot go without in Spring and that is a wide selection of fresh white basics, I'm loving having a good selection of these shirts from ASOS in my wardrobe so that my whites are always perfect.

Great tips Lydia! One thing I’ve started doing is thinking of how many different ways I can wear an item before I buy.

  2. Karen 6th March 2017 / 10:33 am

I havent even started sorting my wardrobe out for this season yet

  3. Liena Snow 6th March 2017 / 11:05 am

Thank you for sharing this great advice. I do the same, reorganize my wardrobe when the season changes, do the general sort out and store away past season pieces.
Evaluate what trends should be introduced this upcoming season and think of what should be bought of staple items.
Have an amazing day lovelies xx

I always try to buy things that can be worn in different ways and with different items, to maximise usage, (Like you do with your leather trousers). I like to add colours with accessories, shoes, and bags.
Always a pleasure reading your blog and watching your YouTube channel.
Love to you, Ali and Lumi. Xx

  7. Kristina Braly 6th March 2017 / 1:32 pm

Looking gorgeous, girl! That dress and shoe combo is everything. My chubby calves won’t fit in the SW boots but I did find a comparable pair that are ????????

I would love to see a video on you implementing this process in your wardrobe. I am stepping out of my comfort zone and experiment with feminine blouses instead of just t-shirts that I would usually go for. Lots of beautiful finds so far.

  12. Azanah 6th March 2017 / 6:20 pm

Did someone mention investing in underwear? Yes! You are correct Lydia…if the foundation is not done right the house will collapse. A post or video about proper undies from you is welcome since you have a knack for style and function.

  16. Diana Free 6th March 2017 / 10:36 pm

I love your tips. It’ll be fun to watch you incorporate color into your wardrobe : )

  17. Frances Kayleigh 7th March 2017 / 2:55 am

I noticed the cheeky bits of colour popping up in your wardrobe, I have to say I am loving it so far, especially those Manolo’s! Xxx

  18. Adele 7th March 2017 / 9:43 am

Great tips Lydia. If I want to introduce a piece into my wardrobe it has to work hard for me, so I always try to think about what I’ll pair it with in my existing wardrobe. I’ll only introduce true colour if I know it won’t date.
    Hugs Adele xoxo

I think it’s important to not only put your clothes away, but to actively go through them and see what you should donate/throw out before stashing it away. I’m always that person who says “just one more winter season” and then 3 years later.. it’s still in my closet

  21. Rachel 8th March 2017 / 3:00 pm

Nice tips & love the dress on you! I think my biggest tip is to get all my coats & jackets dry cleaned before storing at the end of the winter so they are fresh and new in the Autumn ????????

  22. Jordan Kelsey 9th March 2017 / 3:29 pm

I definitely jiggle around my wardrobe space, leaving all my summer clothes at the front with a few exceptions of jumpers etc for those colder nights. For spring I always look for light pieces I can layer and opt for more neautral colours to bring me into spring. Definitely choosing a new spring scent also or burning more floral tones definitely gets me thinking about spring pieces.

Great tips lydia, hope the wedding planning is going well and you’ve visited The Wedding Club ๐Ÿ™‚

Love this dress. I never get sick of seeing it. And yes girl! You wore the Loewe bag! It’s gorgeous. I honestly need to do some major Spring cleaning, especially since I plan to move soon. It always feels so good to purge, but sometimes, as you said, it can be hard to let go. I would love to have a friend over while I do it, have some wine and then purge away. I always think a friend or sister will always be very honest with you about whether or not you should really keep something if you are reluctant to let something go, don’t you think?? ๐Ÿ™‚ Great post. I love your vlogs btw! The most recent one with Range Rover was incredible – you captured the details of the car really nicely.

  24. Yogita 13th March 2017 / 1:05 pm

  27. Catherine 18th March 2017 / 9:20 pm

Great tips Lydia! I definitely need to do a clear out soon – I have way too many items that I just don’t wear anymore. Good idea about stocking up on basics too! x

  28. camilla 19th March 2017 / 5:18 pm

  30. Jillian 22nd March 2017 / 2:57 pm

I am all about the subtle colors for spring! I am not talking about the orange t-shirts, green jeans and bright yellow socks (haha!), but about the white blouses with colorful embroidered flowers on them, or the nice light colored espadrilles, with maybe a touch of color. Totally love spring and summer!
Light colors in combination with a few bright colored details. Oh and I always love brown leathered belts/(hand)bags in the warmer seasons and will be wearing more black leather on colder days.
