alpine beauty essentials

28th December 2015
You’ll probably be replacing your thermals this time next year and most certainly throwing out the garish salopettes but one thing you wont be replacing any time soon is you and when you’re spending however many days in the Alpine air and harsh sunlight you definitely need to up your beauty game a notch or two. Having spent many months across a four year span skiing/boarding the slopes across Italy and Switzerland I like to think I’ve become a bit of a pro when it comes to adjusting my regime accordingly. [lem_title]SPF[/lem_title] Being an advocate of sensible sun protection, it is always the absolute priority on my list of skincare essentials when embarking on a Alpine escape. However, I’m not a huge fan of the general consistency when it comes to sunscreens, especially those for your face but I feel like I’ve discovered a real gem in the Paula’s Choice Youth Extending SPF50 and it transitions perfectly for both humid Summer holidays and fresh Winter retreats so it won’t be a beauty investment that will sit in your beauty cupboard until next Winter, in fact I use mine every day! Ever since I first tried the Creme De La Mer moisturising cream I haven’t stopped reaching for it on those days where my skin needs a pick me up, an extra glow or to sooth the effects of every day life. Being an advocate of sensible sun protection, it is always the absolute priority on my list of skincare essentials when embarking on a Alpine escape.

[lem_title]Rehydration[/lem_title]

The fresh, harsh wind of the Swiss Alps is amplified the moment you strap a board to your feet and you can expect some seriously dry skin after a day or two of it battering your face so a surge of moisture is essential. Ever since I first tried the Creme De La Mer moisturising cream I haven’t stopped reaching for it on those days where my skin needs a pick me up, an extra glow or to sooth the effects of every day life. I reach for it time and time again and I simply knew that it would be the perfect companion to ensure my skin is photo ready as soon as I was off the slopes.

[lem_title]Hands & Feet[/lem_title]

Theres nothing quite like the dull ache you feel when you strap on your boots for the first time after an age away from the slopes. Your feet are going to take a bit of a battering and I secretly look forward to giving them some care and attention when I’m back in my Chalet. The extreme conditions teamed some rigorous exercise/lots of time spent eating snow means your extremeties are going to bare the brunt and the next best thing to a full body massage is a good cream rubbed into them…preferably by your boyfriend.  The Caudalie Foot Beauty Cream with to its non-greasy (are you seeing the trend?) and ultra nourishing formula is currently my favourite treatment for my cold and tired limbs. The non-greasy formula means I can slather a thick layer under some cosy socks over night for a intensive treatment.

[lem_title]Lips[/lem_title]

When you’ve done a course of Roaccutane I kind of feel like you have some sort of PhD when it comes to lip care. I know what works and I certainly know what doesn’t and from the first time my step mum put a little blob of Eight Hour cream on my finger I have always sworn by it even through my course and it really is answer to your wind chapped prayers when coming off the slopes and they also do a special lip option with added SPF for on them.

[lem_title]Hair[/lem_title]

My hair has seen a lot of chemicals over the last year so it really does need to be taken care of in extreme conditions. The sun is so very harsh in the snow as it reflects and magnifies the strength. I use the Kerastase Micro Voile Protecteur  throughout the Summer and Winter months because the light, fragrant mist acts as a shield against UV rays to prevent damage to hair and fading of colour and like with all Kerastase products, it does exactly what it says on the bottle.
