6 tips for staying hydrated this summer

7th July 2015
So if we’ve all quite finished moaning about how hot it is, as us Brits do so well, why don’t we all make the most of a few tips to ensure we stay as comfortable and hydrated as possible during this glorious heatwave. 1. Infuse your water I hear it time and time again that people don’t like the taste of water so add a slice of lemon or some frozen berries and pop it in the fridge for a few minutes to infuse. This gives your water a subtle taste whilst also adding a little more goodness to your water. I like to freeze a lemon and pop in a green tea bag with some ice as well to enjoy some tea without the heat.   2. Prepare yourself There’s little worse than being caught out without water when the heat is turned up to the max to it’s good to equip yourself with the right bits to ensure this doesn’t happen. When I’m out of the house, or even just in the Garden I fill up my Brita Fill & Go bottle and do exactly that, fill & go. I was on the Tube when the temperature was in the mid 30’s last week and it’s safe to say I’ve never been so thankful for a water bottle in my life.   3. Fruit & Veg Aim to eat fruit and vegetables with a high water content for additional water consumption or simply just to change things up from the norm. Some delicious options are Cranberries, raspberries, Watermelon & Pineapple.   4. Avoid Alcohol I especially recommend avoiding alcohol when in the sunshine but especially when not hydrated properly. Alcohol causes your blood to rush to the surface of your skin heating it up more than normal which can […]

So if we’ve all quite finished moaning about how hot it is, as us Brits do so well, why don’t we all make the most of a few tips to ensure we stay as comfortable and hydrated as possible during this glorious heatwave.

1. Infuse your water

I hear it time and time again that people don’t like the taste of water so add a slice of lemon or some frozen berries and pop it in the fridge for a few minutes to infuse. This gives your water a subtle taste whilst also adding a little more goodness to your water. I like to freeze a lemon and pop in a green tea bag with some ice as well to enjoy some tea without the heat.

2. Prepare yourself

There’s little worse than being caught out without water when the heat is turned up to the max to it’s good to equip yourself with the right bits to ensure this doesn’t happen. When I’m out of the house, or even just in the Garden I fill up my Brita Fill & Go bottle and do exactly that, fill & go. I was on the Tube when the temperature was in the mid 30’s last week and it’s safe to say I’ve never been so thankful for a water bottle in my life.

3. Fruit & Veg

Aim to eat fruit and vegetables with a high water content for additional water consumption or simply just to change things up from the norm. Some delicious options are Cranberries, raspberries, Watermelon & Pineapple.

4. Avoid Alcohol

I especially recommend avoiding alcohol when in the sunshine but especially when not hydrated properly. Alcohol causes your blood to rush to the surface of your skin heating it up more than normal which can cause burning so it’s always best to opt for something refreshing and hydrating.

5. Track your Wee

Totally the most unglamourous thing I’ve ever written but yes I’m advising you to pay close attention so your urine. Is it dark and cloudy? The chances are you’re dehydrated but if it’s pale in colour or even clear you are on the right track. I can always tell whether I’ve drank enough water during the day by the colour of my urine and also how many trips I needed to take to the loo. I genuinely cannot believe I’m typing this.

6. Add Some Minerals

I recently read that adding Raw Sea Salt to your water can aid absorption and I’m definitely noticing a difference in my water in take. And this also aids your adrenal and thyroid function meaning more energy too.

Ad Embarking on a journey of timeless treasures, my passion for antiquing began in the warmth of late summer 2019. When I discovered my father’s old boarding school tuck trunk nestled in the attic of their home. Since then, my weekends have unfolded like chapters in a novel, meandering through antiques emporiums and brocantes across the country.

Each trip unveils a tapestry of tales from bygone eras - from weathered pickling jars and vases to opulent French chandeliers and steamer trunks, and with each trip, I was captivated by the hidden secrets and untold histories woven into each artefact.
